PROMOTING YOUR WEB SITE (part 2) ©2005 http://www.KnockOutWebsites4U.com Welcome back to part II of "Promoting Your Web Site". I hope you have been working on some of the concepts we were discussing last month, ready to move on? So you've submitted your site to the top 10 search engines (or more), along with those ever important META tags, now what? Well you need to make a choice. There are literally hundreds of different marketing techniques out there. Some of them create more traffic than others. Some techniques that you'll try won't generate any traffic, and some will generate a ton. Just remember this: Whatever technique you choose to implement, milk it for all its worth! Whatever you choose to do, if it's reciprocal links, ezine advertising, posting to forums/discussion lists, etc..., you must not promote half heartedly. One thing you'll find, is that it's extremely easy to get "lost" in numerous activities. You don't want to drown in the sea of opportunity! Take things a step at a time- the "Stepping Stones for Increasing Your Web Traffic"! The key to this approach, is to promote each marketing technique to its fullest before moving on to the next. This way you can maximize the results in each marketing adventure, without having to worry about how the previous one is doing. Concentrate all your efforts in the job at hand. Try and remember the last time you had to "juggle" ten different tasks and how that affected your performance (not to mention your nerves)! Start going after reciprocal links- you need these! Occasionally reciprocal links can be hard to get, especially if you go about it the wrong way. If you don't know what a reciprocal link is, check out an example 'Links' page at http://www.enuffsedmusic.com/links.html The first step is to search the Internet for web sites that have some common interests to yours. Look for sites that have good design, easy navigation and that provide valuable information to their readers. There's nothing worse than to find a 'Links' page that is packed with more than 400 meaningless links, in no organized fashion. This only confuses the reader, instead of helping him or her. Remember, you want to provide your audience with useful information and links, so spend the time researching other web sites, and designing a "fun-to-use" links page. Your readers will thank you for it! Start checking out various forums and discussion groups Forums and discussion groups are "places" one goes, to discuss certain specific topics. People come here for various reasons: to post questions about problems they're having, discuss a number of interests with others, or answer questions posted within the forum or list. It's a good idea to monitor a few forums before you start posting. This way, you get a feel for how everything works, and be able to judge if your post is appropriate for that list/forum. Post appropriately in forums and discussion groups! This is very important! When you 'post' a letter or note, it gets viewed by the thousands of people that participate in that forum or group. You will also find that generally, participants in forums and discussion groups are long-time Internet users and do not take well to spammers! They will not hesitate to post a nasty message back or even get you 'busted'. Just think before you post, and everyone will be happy! A great site that lists over 260,000 forums and discussion groups can be found at www.forumone.com You can find forums on practically any subject you can think of! Check them out! When you're ready to start posting, you will want to make sure you have a signature file (sig file). This is what you get to put after each post you make. It's sort of like a description of who you are and what company you represent. ######################################### "Saving You Money.
